Hello!
My name is Rainey Warren. I am a printer, artist, and photographer living in Portland, Oregon. I grew up in Texas on the outskirts of the suburbs north of Dallas. The large clouds and long horizons there have always been an inspiration to me and its varied landscapes hold a significant place in my heart. I graduated in 2003 from DePaul University which exposed me to the well-stocked art museums of Chicago.
I received my MFA in Poetry from Naropa University’s Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics in 2006 and then moved to Washington state in 2007. I took an internship in 2009 at the Zine Archive and Publishing Project (ZAPP) inside The Hugo House in Seattle, Washington. My internship culminated in a solo show of art books in 2010.
In 2012 I studied with the letter press printer Lisa Hasegawa at Pratt Fine Arts Center where I learned the art of letter press printing. At the same time I shared a studio space with woodblock printer Charles Spitzack who taught me the basics of linoleum block printing.
I moved to Portland, Oregon in 2016 where I volunteered at the Independent Publishing Resource Center (IPRC) until 2020 where I was a shop monitor for the letter press studio. At IPRC I taught a linoleum block printing class in 2019. I also participated in multiple live-printing demonstrations for IPRC fundraisers.
Today I am working on bringing my love of printing and my love of Zen into my art practice.
